Hey I was wondering what you use to develope SnapPages. What apps do you use? How long did it take you to learn them?

Most of the apps are were created using Adobe's Flash. I've been working with flash for at least 7 years now although I've most of my heavy programing has come about in the last 3-4 years. The rest of the site that is not in flash is a mix of php, javascript, and css. I use dreamweaver to hand code that. It's hard to say how long it took to learn any of these b/c it's happened so gradually. I just have picked up things here and there as I needed to know them. But everything I know about the internet I've learned from the internet so there are tons of great resources out there if you want to learn more.

Oh man I guess I gotta get my shit together. I'm just now learning flash. Do you have any recommendations on books, sites or any other sources for Flash, PHP, and JavaScript? Have you ever tried Lynda.com?

Most of my learning has always been a result of necessity, meaning I learn best when I'm actually trying to do something rather then just reading books on it. My suggestion is to figure what you want to do with the programs and then just start figuring out how to do it. Flashkit.com is a great resource to learn flash. There are some good tutorials but you can really find anything you need from their forums. Also check out kirupa.com, they have better tutorials to get you started.

Alright I have another question. Do you design a site in photoshop and then import it into flash as separate layers or do you actually design everything within flash?

It depends on the site. Sites that are mainly created with html I will design in photoshop first then cut it up and program it. If I'm creating a website/applicaiton mainly in flash I will just do the design work in flash. I'm not sure if many other people do it that way but I like the drawing tools and it saves me a step in the development process. For instance all the icons you see in snappages are vector based and created in flash so if I ever need it at different sizes it's all scalable and right there in my library.
